A Combinatorial Theory of Tilings

Abstract:
The theory of Delaney symbols provides a suitable
combinatorial model for formulating and solving classification problems
concerning periodic tilings. After a short review of classical results,
applications of this new approach are discussed
and recent results in the classification of periodic
three-dimensional tilings are summarized.
